Day 28

<-Prev    Next ->

States: New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma
Miles driven: 617
Miles hiked: 0
Slept: In the back of my car in a rest area, just inside the Oklahoma state line.
10 words or less: Took shortest route through Texas. Barely got out before sunset.

Pizza pizza

In my journal the only thing I wrote today was “Got 2 pizzas. They screwed up the first one.” Compared to the rest of the trip, it was the fucking highlight of the day.

I drove through the rest of New Mexico and the panhandle of Texas. I refused to stay any longer than I had to in Texas. I don’t know why I hate Texas so much. I like that their people are so tall. Maybe it’s because of the Dallas Cowboys, who suck. Or maybe it’s because I blame the entire state for George W. Bush.

I drove about 90 miles an hour and beat the sun to the Oklahoma border by about 1 minute. Whew! Crisis averted. I found a rest area and tried to do a little reading under the lights of the closed visitor center. Unfortunately I was kept company by a swarm of spastic crickets and one very big black widow spider. I hustled back to the car, skin crawling and went to sleep.
